So late to this article, but this makes me think about wanting to do a deep dive into folk horror. I'm in a big fairy tale/didactic storytelling mood right now, and this seems up my alley.
It's great to have you here! If you have any suggestions for genres you want covered, feel free to send them over. It may take a little while to get to suggestions, but I'm working my way through.
I loved folk horror long before I knew the name for the genre. I am sort of glad it is gaining poularity again, but a bit sad that it is not so niche. Are you a fan of Adam Nevill's books? I loved The Ritual.
Love this. I feel we're starting to see more and more eco themes in all sorts of genres and it's only on the rise.
Definately due to climate fear. A great example of art reacting to society.

I would encourage anyone who loved this article like me to read The Bog Wife by Kat Chronister :)
Wow! This is so cool! I’m so excited to find this series!

Yes, I love Adam Nevill. House of Small Shadows is a favourite of mine.
Ooh, I have read 4 or 5 of his books, but not that one, so I will read that next! Thanks.
Loved it. Thank you for sharing coincidentally I have two articles scheduled one about the uncanny and the other about folk horror
I'm going to go have a look at these now!
Sorry they are not published yet
Haha! I missed the 'scheduled' part of your comment. I'll keep an eye out for them.
This was cool to read, lots of references to come back to! Thanks for sharing. FYI my Substack is 99% folk horror 😜🤗
Really! Going to quietly stalk you now.
Excellent write up! Folk horror is my favorite genre and also the one I wrote in, I need to come back to this for reference many times.
Also my fav, I found so many texts I forgot existed researching this.

Oh man I love this. Also, can't recommend Russian/Slavic folk horror enough. The Viy by Nikolai Gogol is just incredible.
